Hedras Ramos, 20 year-old instrumental rock guitarist from Guatemala picked up the guitar at about age 8. After years of intense practicing for hours everyday, Hedras has become a known prodigy all over the world, opening for popular bands such as Kansas, White Cross, Die Toten Hosen, and was personally chosen by Axl Rose to open for Guns N’ Roses during their CHINESE DEMOCRACY tour in Guatemala.

“I play and practice everyday.” says Hedras, “In my highschool [years] I used to study like 7 hours daily, now it’s a little bit different. For example I’m right now in Krakow, Poland in front of the computer answering this nice interview and it’s 6:57 AM. I didn’t sleep, but tomorrow I have rehearsal so I’ll play guitar very soon.”

He continues, “I have to say that I’m almost all the time with a guitar in my hands, either playing live in front of an audience or maybe teaching to some students, maybe studying music in my room or composing music in the studio.”

Its obvious all Hedras’ studying and practicing has payed off – at 19 he’s already traveling around the world, performing live and composing/producing his own albums.

“In 2009 I got second place on Guitar Idol,” Says Hedras, “…this is one of the biggest guitar competitions in London. In 2010 I won second place in the Ziua Chitarelor3 in Bucharest, Romania. Now I’m competing again in the Guitar Idol3 in London, this will be on Dec/4/2011.”

When asked about his music, Hedras comments, “I have 3 albums, all of them are available on itunes, Amazon and everywhere. The first one is New Sounds which I wrote when I was 14. The other one is a Christmas EP, and the new one is called Atoms and Space which I composed bewteen 2009 and 2010.” He continues, “I have incredible musicians on this album like Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson), Andy James, Muris Varajic and Billy Ashbaugh on drums.”

According to Hedras, “My main guitars are my Halo signature guitar that Halo Guitars made for me, (if you are interested in this guitar you should check out this link for any kind of specs and pics), and my 7-string Mayones Regius that I won on Guitar Idol 2009.”

Aside from guitar, Hedras also plays “…drums and a little bit of piano. Using a DAW it’s enough to play every instrument in the world; piano and computer are enough to make any sound happen I hear in my head!”

“I wanna improve as a musician and as a guitar player.” Says Hedras, “I don’t wanna stop, but I also wanna tour and have fun on stage with more people. I want to compose more music and satisfy my soul and ears, for sure my career will grow up and one day my goals may change!”

When asked about his biggest influences he states, “Its hard to pick some of my influences, because I have so many…Satriani, Vai, Petrucci and all those guys were my influences, then I began to listen to more jazz and piano music and different stuff…” He continues, “Some of my influences now are Jonathan Kreisberg and Guthrie Govan and the pop kingdom (and when I say the pop kingdom I’m talking about every song or artist that is in the spotlight today). This doesn’t influence me in a musical way like harmony, but it does in other ways.”

What does he like best about playing guitar? “There are 2 things: listening to a piece of music that I just finished in my studio and listening to it very loud – that’s a beautiful moment in my life and one of the best moments in music I think (and of course to play it live)! The the other thing that I like about playing guitar is, girls. :)
